Thousands of trailers are being recalled because of an issue that could impede visibility as well as navigation ability. If you own one of the following trailers, it’s imperative that you heed the directives of the recall to protect yourself and your fellow travelers.
The Keystone RV Company announced the recall, which affects Recreational Trailers of the 2013 and 2014 model years. Each of the 6,561 potentially affected trailers will have a Weather Pro Awning or a Dometic 9100 Power Awning with a serial number whose first three digits range from 306 to 314.
The defect may present itself if the aforementioned awnings were not installed according to the correct sequence. This improper installation can cause damage to the motor that furls and unfurls the awning. Such damage may lead the awning to come down while the vehicle is in transit. Should that occur, the driver of the trailer is in danger of sustaining a crash, and other motor vehicle operators would be forced to dodge the unspooled awning. Even if parked, the awning could cause an injury if persons in the vicinity aren’t expecting it to come down.
At some point this month, the recall is set to begin, and owners should thus start to receive notification from Keystone. A new awning motor that shouldn’t suffer from the issue can be obtained from a dealer, who will offer a free installation of the component.
