The city of Plainfield, Illinois has deemed this week Train Safety Awareness Week, and some of the information they’re providing to citizens is valuable to persons all across the country. A new report finds the local police department detailing those situations that typically lead to a collision between a train and a motor vehicle. Many of the circumstances typically stem from a motorist overestimating their ability to outpace an oncoming train, the speed of which can be hard to gauge. Distraction and intoxication also lead to their fair share of calamities. Motorists also tend to mistakenly cross tracks after the first train passes only to be struck by a train coming the other direction on an adjoining track.
