Could your driving habits be putting you in danger? If you tailgate vehicles in front of you, they might be. The Ohio Highway Patrol estimates that nearly 66,000 crashes throughout 2012 could be attributed to a person following another far too closely, and those crashes caused 58 deaths. To make sure you’re not privy to such a threat, keep ample space between yourself and a leading vehicle. One car length simply isn’t sufficient at speeds of 65 miles per hour and up. A general rule of thumb is to allow one car length for every ten MPH. That way, you should be able to hit the brakes when warranted and you’ll also be able to identify upcoming obstacles in the road.
