We recently discussed the many grants that have been rewarded throughout the state in order to make improvements in matters of safety. In the areas of Orange County and Los Angeles Counties alone, the California Office of Traffic Safety made over $10 million available for a variety of safety initiatives. In Glendale, $228,000 has been provided to the local police department for a series of patrol efforts that will find officers cracking down on distracted drivers and those whose actions compromise the safety of pedestrians, among other things. Although officers will enact patrols designed to crack down on drunk drivers as well, the grants will not be utilized for checkpoints that can be used to suss out such dangerous vehicle operators.
