At the end of last week, police in the city of Chula Vista sought to crack down on drivers using their cellphones at the wheel. As a result of the six hour operation this past Friday, 40 persons found themselves on the receiving end of a ticket for distracted driving. One additional driver pulled over during the operation had their vehicle impounded once it was discovered that their license had allegedly been suspended at the time of the traffic stop. The increased patrol effort was made possible through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
With these types of operations becoming commonplace across California, hopefully drivers will begin to get the hint and put down their phones while they’re navigating the road.
