This past May, 43,000 Chevy Malibu, Buick Regal, and Buick LaCross vehicles were recalled by General Motors because of a circuit board issue that could lead to the battery catching fire. But now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is concerned that the test GM put into place to determine whether or not an automobile could suffer from this issue isn’t sufficient. At the moment, dealers are tasked with putting the Generator Control Module through a high amount of stress, an activity that is supposed to reveal a problem. But one new vehicle that aced the stress test has reportedly caught fire, and thus the NHTSA is examining the test itself to determine if something more needs to be done.
