In a new report, safety advocates explain that parents need to take more of a vested interest in the online habits of their children. A recent study from a magazine called ParentsCanada found that 82% of parents claimed that they were unable to control their children’s internet usage, which the editor of the magazine says stems from an inability to comprehend what their kids are doing because their children simply know more about the web. A representative of a security software company explains that parents should reconfigure various privacy settings to protect their kids. That way, certain websites are restricted and passwords will be required to get around safety mechanisms. Kids should be cautioned against chatting with those they don’t know and posting personal details, and parents should even be encouraged to connect with their kids online through their own social media profiles.
