A new report takes a look at the new Police Interceptor Sport Utility Vehicles that the California Highway Patrol is using in its fleet. The vehicle, which is basically a Ford Explorer with a number of added bells and whistles, is supposed to allow officers to conduct their duties in the safest and most cost-efficient manner possible. Any officers asked to drive one of these new vehicles will be put through a training course so that they understand proper operation, which is slightly different than the Crown Victorias the department previously relied on. Those courses will focus on such things as avoiding crashes and driving defensively.
