This past May, a tragic limo fire on the San Mateo bridge grabbed the national spotlight and caused lawmakers and safety advocates alike to question current regulations of the industry in California and the country as a whole. That event triggered two California senators to introduce a bill in the legislature that would tighten regulations of limos, requiring such vehicles to submit to inspections and include such safety-promoting things as emergency exits and fire extinguishers. Now, a report explains that an audit will be conducted in order to suss out whether or not the state’s Public Utilities Commission is acting appropriately when it comes to the regulation of limousines. The audit is designed to look into how well the agency is holding up the requirements of the Passenger Charter-Party Carriers’ Act.
