Toyota has announced the recall of a staggering 342,451 vehicles due to an issue that could compromise the ability of the seatbelts. The recall pertains to Tacoma Access Cab vehicles of the 2005 through 2011 model years. Upon repeated opening and closing of the doors, loosening of the screws that connect seatbelt retractors to pre-tensioners is a possibility. When that loosening becomes sufficient, complete detachment of the two components from one another can take place, possibly preventing the seatbelt from offering an adequate amount of protection during a crash. There’s no word yet on when the recall is going to take place, but when it does, owners will hear from Toyota and should be able to get a free inspection and repairs from dealers.
