A bill seeking to improve the safety of limos in California designed to carry fewer than ten passengers has drawn one step closer to passage. This past Friday, the Assembly Appropriations Committee passed the measure by a 12 to 5 margin following an amendment that increased the fees that the California Highway Patrol would be able to gain from inspections. The bill would set the stage for the CHP to conduct such inspections as well as mandate the availability of two fire extinguishers onboard the limo so that a fire could potentially be put out if it erupts. The Assembly will soon vote on the bill, and should it pass, the measure would head to the Senate and then go on to the Governor if passed.
