Grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety have led to another motorcycle enforcement operation, this one in the city of Merced. The event will take place tomorrow, and it will find the city’s police department increasing its patrolling efforts in those areas that are often frequented by motorcyclists. Speeding is a particular concern for officers, likely due to the three deaths associated with that action that have taken place within Merced since 2010. But speeding won’t be the only activity officers will be monitoring. They will also be on the lookout for illegal turns and intoxication at the wheel, the two other factors that most typically contribute to a crash. Automobile operators will also be subject to these police efforts.
