Ventura County will be the site of a drunk driving checkpoint being put together by the California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark branch this weekend. The checkpoint, which comes on the heels of a statewide crackdown on intoxicated driving over the long Labor Day weekend, will take place this Saturday, although its exact location is being withheld as per policy. Rather than warning drunk drivers that they need to go elsewhere, the CHP hopes that early announcements of such initiatives will serve to deter people from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated in the first place. The state’s Office of Traffic Safety provided the grant that makes the checkpoint possible. The CHP has stated that they’ll try to check every automobile that passes through.
