Drivers throughout California, particularly in the northern section of the state, should be on guard as high winds tear through the area. A series of incidents have been reported in Utah, Nevada, and California. In the Lake Tahoe mountains, the wind was reported to have reached 103 miles per hour, and things got bad enough on one highway in California that multiple tractor trailers were actually knocked over, according to the California Highway Patrol. Emeryville was the site of an incident wherein a retailer’s facade was blown off, causing damage to nearby vehicles. These types of weather conditions should prompt increased caution among all citizens, particularly commercial drivers. Anyone commuting near big rigs should give them a wide berth, and debris flung into the road should be avoided.
