A Salmonella outbreak has been traced by the United States Department of Agriculture to a series of chicken products hailing from California. Although most of the 278 reported illnesses have taken place in California, 17 other states have also been privy to reported cases. Although the USDA is still attempting to deduce what particular production period or specific product caused the outbreak, the Salmonella has been traced to three Foster Farms plants in California. A formal recall has yet to be issued, and Foster Farms claims that the items, when cooked all the way through, are safe to eat. Persons privy to a Salmonella-based sickness can expect to face such things as cramps and diarrhea, but in some susceptible parties, an illness could prove to be deadly.
