New research has been released which points to overwhelming deficiencies associated with harnesses designed to keep pets in place during a car trip. The Center for Pet Safety recently put seven of these devices to the test, and they came away with disappointing findings. Only one product was shown to keep a 55 pound crash test dummy dog strapped in when involved in a crash where the automobile was traveling over 30 miles per hour. The others failed in that regard. The founder of the Center notes that a failed pet harness has a distinct impact on human safety as well, as a pet who gets thrust forward in the event of a crash could come into contact with another vehicle occupant. The Center will reportedly be working with Subaru to improve the efficacy of these devices.
