A new report offers some helpful tips to parents who are trying to rein in their teenagers’ cellphone habits at the wheel of a vehicle. The author points to a startling statistic that 77% of teens believe they’re capable of texting and driving at the wheel even as 85% of teens recognize that the activity is dangerous. This way of thinking puts teens at a disadvantage, but parents can help their children stay safe by creating a driving compact that the teen can enter into. Such a contract can outline those distractions that are unacceptable and that would trigger a revocation of driving privileges. Parents can monitor this behavior via a number of apps already on the market. When reviewing the data, though, parents must realize that internet usage could be to blame just as easily as a text message.
