A new law that seeks to improve the safety of drugs has been passed by the United States Senate, and with a similar law already receiving the approval of the House, the President is expected to sign the measure soon. The law provides a mechanism for the drugs that are shipped around the country to be traced, allowing pharmacies, doctors, and consumers to see the supply chain of an item. The thought is that such a move could root out potentially unsafe distributors. It could also speed along recalls and reduce the risk of drug shortages. By being able to identify the origin of a given drug, a sense of trust can be gained even with a distributor that may not be immediately known to a given pharmacist.
