If your upcoming Christmas festivities are going to involve a healthy amount of eggnog, or you’re going to be indulging in holiday spirit in the truest sense of the word, then a designated driver must be chosen ahead of time. At no point should you take to the roads while inebriated, and lest the thought of potential injury or even death not be enough to dissuade you from getting behind the wheel while drunk, then maybe the announcement of a new public safety campaign will.
The California State Transportation Agency, the Office of Traffic Safety, and the California Highway Patrol will be enacting an effort aimed at pulling over drunk drivers and preventing the needless loss of life that can result from those persons. This campaign started this past Friday and will go until New Year’s Day. Citizens can expect to see an increase in the number of patrols and checkpoints in place throughout the state, and those will be supplemented by public service announcements calling for responsible driving.
These patrol efforts will be joined by a campaign called RUOK?, which was kicked off recently in Sacramento. This facet of the safety effort finds VIP events honoring persons who have chosen to be designated drivers. Those events have been held at various nightlife hotspots in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and other cities in California. An app has been launched in conjunction with the campaign that identifies those non-alcoholic drinks that can be consumed by persons hanging out with their friends at bars.
