A new report provides an early look at the results of the California Highway Patrol’s efforts to cut down on collisions during the Thanksgiving weekend. The combined patrol efforts of officers in the Indio and San Gorgonio Pass areas led to the arrests of 23 people for driving while intoxicated. The CHP also responded to 35 collisions over the course of five days. The good news is that the number of collisions in Indio in particular has declined from previous levels. While the area had 28 and 18 crashes that prompted CHP investigations over Thanksgiving in 2011 and 2012, respectively, that number dropped to 13 this year. One officer with the department explained that these numbers are the result of various enforcement and educational efforts in recent times.
