A new report takes a look at San Francisco’s WalkFirst safety initiative, which seeks to improve pedestrian safety in the area. The group held a sparsely attended meeting a couple weeks ago, but that isn’t stopping the proponents of the effort from continuing on their mission. $17 million is being provided so that the group can implement various recommendations over the next half a decade that would all serve to protect the wellbeing of pedestrians within the city. The hope is that the next seven years will see a 50% reduction in deaths and injuries. Data is being analyzed to determine what areas of the city could stand to benefit the most from safety improvements. Areas around retirement facilities and school zones will receive a focus, as will increasing the timers at certain crosswalks.
