A recall has been issued on 33,840 pounds’ worth of chicken products because there’s a risk that they could be contaminated by Salmonella. The Sedalia, Missouri-based Tyson Foods announced the recall, which affects mechanically separated chicken available to institutions in 40 pound cases. The recall was initiated after a correctional institution in Tennessee reported an illness outbreak. An investigation conducted by the Food Safety and Inspection Services branch of the Department of Agriculture deduced that there could be a connection between those illnesses and the aforementioned product. As a result, the agency is asking that those facilities that received these items cease serving them. They also stress the continued importance of thoroughly cooking chicken and other meats, as doing so can help reduce the bacterial threat.
