Last week, the Food and Drug Administration came out with a news update stressing the importance of flu shots even this late in the season. Reinforcing that idea is news from the California Department of Health that at least 202 people have died throughout the state this flu season. Los Angeles has had the highest number of such fatalities with 26. This makes this year substantially more dangerous than last year, when the entire season saw 106 deaths. We still have much of the season to go, and already the DOH is looking into 41 fatalities that may yet prove to be tied to the flu. Persons who believe they may be in the early stages of the flu should seek medical assistance at once, and even healthy persons should seek out a flu shot.
