A California Senator has proposed a bill that attempts to make the state the first ever to impose warnings about health repercussions on sodas. If passed, all sugary beverages that reach a certain calorie threshold would be affixed with statements relating how the consumption of such drinks could lead individuals to suffer various health issues, namely tooth decay, diabetes, and obesity. The rule would apply to fountain drinks, drinks served at restaurants, and any canned or bottled beverage. Although the measure has the backing of the California Medical Association, not everyone is pleased with the proposal. CalBev, for instance, has come out against the proposed rule.
