New research out of the Health System of the University of Michigan aims to help people, especially persons older than 65, avoid slip and fall hazards that are likely to occur on days that are rainy and wet. A journal called Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery will feature the research, which used a number of metrics to determine those days that persons would be more susceptible to a fall and all attendant injuries that would create. Snow was taken into account, as were less readily identifiable risks like temperature and wind. During the most injurious days studied, injuries tended to spike, with winter not surprisingly seeing the largest number of injuries among persons older than 65.
