On September 15, 2014, 26-year-old newlywed Lorae Bermudez was sunbathing on the beach in Venice when she was run over by an SUV driven by a Los Angeles County lifeguard. Ms. Bermudez suffered serious internal injuries and fractures to her pelvis and was taken to UCLA Medical Center for treatment. Ms. Bermudez’s husband, Thomas Kim, was swimming in the ocean at the time his wife was run over, and immediately rushed to her aid.
On September 30, 2014, attorneys at Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP filed a government claim against Los Angeles County on Ms. Bermudez’s and Mr. Kim’s behalf, alleging negligence against the County.
This incident marks the third time that someone has been run over on a Los Angeles County beach this year by a County employee.
