On July 13, 2015, the Los Angeles NBC news station broadcast an in depth look at the wrongful death case filed by Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP on behalf of the family of Jewel Brangman. 26-year old Ms. Brangman was killed when a Takata Air Bag in her rented Honda ruptured and propelled shrapnel into her neck after a minor fender bender. The resulting blood loss caused Ms. Brangman to be deprived of oxygen, and she succumbed to her injuries.
The report also highlights a disturbing loophole in the law that allows rental car companies to hide the fact that the cars they rent are subject to a recall and to allow the cars to be driven without any repairs being made.
