The largest convention of California trial attorneys kicks off this week in Las Vegas at the 34th Annual Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Convention. More than 2,800 legal professionals will attend the event from September 1-4 which features 140 exhibit booths and offers education sessions presented by some of nation’s most accomplished litigators.
Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP attorneys Brian Panish, Adam Shea, Rahul Ravipudi, Deborah Chang and Ryan Casey will participate as featured speakers on Friday and Saturday at various morning and afternoon education sessions.
Friday, September 2
Firm partner Rahul Ravipudi will discuss the Presentation of Demonstrative Evidence during the Basic Trial Skills morning session in Meeting Room A. Mr. Ravipudi’s ability to effectively communicate with jurors and create a visual impact through the use of demonstrative evidence has resulted in three eight-figure verdicts in the last several years including a $14 million jury verdict in Newland v. County of Los Angeles, a nearly $19.8 jury verdict in Diao v. Southern California Gas Company and a $20.5 million jury verdict in Jun v. Chaffey Joint Union High School District. Additional panelists include Jeffrey Rudman, Gretchen Nelson, Greg Rizio, Ricardo Echeverria and the Hon. Kevin Brazile. The Basic Trial skills session will be moderated by Laura Sedrish.
Attorney Ryan Casey will also appear as a speaker during the morning session, discussing the topic of Damage Issues in Third-Party Cases: Comp Liens, Credits and Offsets at the Third-Party and Work Comp Crossover Cases session in Meeting Room B. Additional panelists include Keith More, Philip Layfield, Lars Johnson, Brian Chase and Gary Paul. David deRubertis will serve as moderator for the Third-Party and Work Comp Crossover Cases session. An article directed at attorneys pursuing a crossover case and offering key pointers to help maximize a client’s recovery through Workers’ Comp and tort claims was written by Mr. Casey and PSBR founding partner Adam Shea and was featured in the May 2016 issue of Advocate.
Attorney Deborah Chang will serve as a featured panelist in Meeting Room A during the afternoon session entitled Jury Selection. Ms. Chang, named one of the Top Women Lawyers in California in 2016 by Daily Journal, will discuss Getting Jurors Comfortable with Large Damages and Tort Reform which will be followed by a demonstration of skills with a mock jury selection. Additional panelists include Hon. Samantha Jessner, Harry Plotkin, Michael Schonbuch, Gary Dordick, Robert Simon and Chris Dolan. The Jury Selection session will be moderated by David deRubertis.
Saturday, September 3
Founding partner Brian Panish will be a featured panelist on Saturday morning at the Advanced Trial Skills session held in Meeting Room A. During the morning session, Mr. Panish will discuss Cross Examination: Mistakes to Avoid. John Blumberg will moderate the Advanced Trial Skills panel which will include Hon. Debre Weintraub, Michael Alder, Arash Homampour, Elise Sanguinetti and Browne Greene.
Co-founding partner Adam Shea will also be a featured speaker and will discuss Dangerous Conditions of Public Property at the morning Premises Liability session in Meeting Room B. Additional panelists include Hon. Roy Paul, Geraldine Weiss, Mauro Fiore, Steve Vartazarian and Randy McMurray. Daniel Pierson will serve as moderator.
