Internationally renowned attorney and addiction treatment advocate Robert Shapiro will speak at Stephen Wise Temple in Los Angeles at 7 p.m. on January 25, 2018, addressing issues of individual and families struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Co-sponsored by Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP and Beit T’Shuvah, the evening event will be moderated by Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback and offers a unique opportunity to hear from and speak with a leading advocate and expert on the important topic of addiction.
In 2005, Mr. Shapiro and his family suffered the loss of his eldest son, Brent, who died of chemical dependency disease following years of battling his addictions. As a means of honoring Brent, the Shapiro family founded The Brent Shapiro Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to raise drug and alcohol awareness and halt the spread of this tragic disease. With over 20 million people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and nearly $700 billion spent annually for the cost of treatment and incarceration in the United States, addiction is a leading epidemic afflicting our communities and nation and it’s the Shapiro family’s hope to spare other parents of the pain and grief that follows in its path.
