The mother of Emmanuel “Manny” Perez, a 15-year-old autistic student at El Modena High School in Orange who died earlier this week as a result of fatal injuries suffered in a golf cart crash on campus, is seeking to hold the school district accountable for the death of her son.

Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP LPP attorney Robert Glassman and his client, Micaela Sanchez Corona, spoke at a press conference in Los Angeles on Friday and thanked the community for the outpouring of support her family has received in the wake of Manny’s death. Ms. Corona described her son as a gentle, happy boy with the mental capacity of a 3-to-5 year old child who always hugged her tightly.
“You don’t leave a vehicle, whether it’s a golf cart or any other type of vehicle, alone with a young boy like Manny who doesn’t understand and appreciate any danger that he may be in,” Mr. Glassman said as he announced the filing of a Government Claim for Damages against the Orange Unified School District.
Questions remain regarding the moments leading up to the accident that resulted in Manny’s death and whether the autistic student was being supervised by school staff at the time of the crash. Surveillance video taken at the time of the incident by the school’s security camera’s has not yet been released by the District.
The incident remains under investigation by the Orange Police Department.
