The Daily Journal has released its list of 2019 Top Verdicts in California, with the inclusion of Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP’s $21,503,420.48 jury verdict in Rada v. Hardin Irvine Automotive, Inc. named among the largest and most significant verdicts of the year. The landmark result was obtained by Brian Panish, Andrew Owen and Matthew Stumpf for Plaintiff Matthew Rada, a Southern California man who suffered catastrophic injuries after a vehicle illegally exiting the 405 Freeway HOV lane struck his motorcycle and sent him careening across three lanes of traffic and into a passing flatbed trailer.
This is the firm’s 13th case recognition in the Daily Journal‘s Top Verdicts supplement in the past 10 years.
The article highlighting Rada v. Hardin Irvine Automotive, Inc. — a 2019 Top Verdict by Impact — provides details from trial including Mr. Panish’s argument that Plaintiff Rada had suffered severely as a result of his injuries but his biggest loss was the intangible loss of his passion for art — a hand injury prevented him from drawing and sketching as he did before.
“The jury understood the significance of the losses to Mr. Rada,” Mr. Panish said in the interview with Daily Journal. “The biggest surprise was both the speed of the trial itself, and how quickly the jury returned its verdict in less than two hours.”
