Following seven days of trial, PSBR partner Spencer Lucas and firm attorney Alec Clark, alongside co-counsel Sharen Ghatan, reached a $5,000,000 settlement in a wrongful death case involving a 22 year old man who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at a Crunch Fitness in Northridge, California. The gym violated California law that requires health studio staff be trained and certified in Automated External Defibrillators.
This was a zero-offer case until shortly before trial. After conducting jury selection, completing opening statements, and exposing the gym for destroying key evidence, the settlement offer exponentially increased. The Defendant additionally agreed to make safety changes to ensure that all its gyms have appropriate AED training.
