Our client was electrocuted at the Contra Costa County Fair RV Park in Antioch, California while removing an antenna pole from the back of his RV. The pole touched an exposed live electrical wire which was negligently hanging directly above the RV space. The electrical jolt caused him to fall from the top of the RV and sustain severe and catastrophic injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, bilateral arm amputation, right leg amputation, complicated left foot injury causing multiple surgical procedures, and severe burns, which required various hospital admissions and multiple surgical procedures.
Tom Schultz, John Shaller, and Andrew Schrader represented our client in the matter and faced various challenges, including the defendants’ claims of immunity and arguments that it was not reasonably foreseeable for a guest exercising due care to stand on top of an RV exceeding 10 feet in height, raise a 21-foot metal television antenna with a bright yellow warning label into the air, and contact an open and obvious power line illuminated 24/7, while asserting that guests could reasonably be expected to understand the dangers posed by such electrical equipment, before settling the matter for $6,200,000.
