PSR trial attorney Wyatt Vespermann was honored at the CAOC’s 63rd Annual Convention as a recipient of the 2024 Presidential Award. The award was presented to Wyatt in recognition of his work in defeating Assembly Bill 2496 in California which would have limited the rights of abused foster children by offering complete immunity for foster care agencies for their negligence.
Working with Scott Montgomery of Abbey, Weitzenberg, Warren & Emery and Bobby Thompson of Thompson Law Offices, along with CAOC staff, Wyatt and the team engaged in numerous meetings with relevant stakeholders, including members of the state assembly, representatives from the governor’s office, and the Children’s Law Center of California, in order to show AB 2496 was based on false and misleading information from the insurance industry. As a result of these efforts, the team was able to have the most radical provisions of AB 2496 stricken to ensure that legal rights of foster children were protected.
